Cosmelan Pigmentation Treatments

Do you have uneven skin tone? Does your skin look patchy with darker spots in parts? Pigmentation is a common skin concern, especially in a sunny country like Australia.

What is pigmentation? Pigmentation is discolouration of the skin. It’s when one area of skin is darker than the rest. It can look different on everyone but usually comes in the form of freckles, spots or patchiness. Some of our clients describe it as their skin looking “dirty”.

Pigmentation is caused by an increase of melanin production. Melanin is the pigment in your skin, it’s what makes your hair the colour it is and what makes you tan in summer. Factors such as genetics, sun exposure, acne, hormones and medication cause pigmentation and make it get worse.

Treating pigmentation

Are you self-conscious about your pigmentation and wondering if there’s a solution? Luckily, cosmeceutical brand Mesoestetic Cosmelan is an effective depigmentation method that removes deposits of melanin from the skin.

Cosmelan directly targets the melanocyte (the cell where melanin is produced) and affects production to keep hyperpigmentation under control. Your pigmentation fades while skin renewal is stimulated and the chance of reappearance is decreased.

Cosmelan targets:

  • Melasma – pigmentation linked to hormones, perhaps after pregnancy or medication
  • Solae and smile lentigo – spots relating to sun exposure
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) – spots appearing after inflammation e,.g. acne
  • Freckles – genetic spots that darken with sun exposure

How it works

There are four phases of depigmentation of skin. The first phase is a depigmenting mask with an intensive action. This can only be administered by skincare professionals.

Phase 2, 3 and 4 (regulating action) continues at home with depigmenting cream, repair balm and anti-spot photoprotection during a course of 6 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of pigmentation does Cosmelan treat?

It’s effective on melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentations (PIH), solar, senile lentigo and freckles.

How long is the treatment?

Six months in total, from first salon visit to at-home treatment.

When will I see results?

First results will be seen a few weeks after depigmentation mask, but at-home treatment must be continued to prevent spots from reappearing.

Can I combine with other depigmentation treatments?

We recommend avoiding minimally invasive treatments such as peels and microneedling.

Will pigmentation return?

It depends on your skin type, lifestyle and whether you’re subjected to triggering factors. We recommend a daily depigmentation treatment such as melan tran3x and sun care to prevent reappearance.

How do I care for my skin after treatment?

We advise avoiding swimming, prolonged sun exposure and activities that involve excessive sweating for a few days after salon treatment. You will need to apply Phase 2, 3 and 4 products, as per your therapist’s instruction.
